Time to get out of hibernation mode! When Summer rolls around, I’m all about bringing vibrant colors back in to my appearance and wardrobe (full-force). Summer is an opportunity to express oneself in an ultra creative way. From bronzed skin, to highlighted hair, we naturally gain more vibrancy (physically and emotionally :P)… During this time, I find myself happier, more outgoing, and wearing less heavy material… And just like everyone else, I’d like my skin and body to glow.
Rather than run to the drugstore or beauty counter and load up with expensive and chemically loaded products, use natural products that are not only fresher, but multi-functional (from appearance to health).
Here are a few DIY tips from the kitchen:
Get the glow & the body:
Healthy diets rich in fruits & vegetables not only help weight loss, but may reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases.They provide essential vitamins and minerals, fiber, and other substances that are important for good health and amazing skin. Most fruits and vegetables are naturally low in fat and calories and are filling- if bland taste is an issue, simply include, cheese and/or garlic for a dose of zest.
My night time routine consists of massaging my body with coconut oil- it’s packed with essential fatty acids and iron.. The combination helps improve skin, metabolism, hair growth, and fertility. Also, massaging your body does wonders for the muscles and state of mind. The body responds very positively- physically & emotionally .
Get the beach highlighted hair:
Lemon & chamomile tea are components to a tasty drink—but they also happen to be natural hair treatment ingredients for highlights. After washing your hair, rinse your hair with chamomile tea, or apply lemon juice; with a bit of sun exposure, your hair will naturally lighten.
Get the fresh face look:
Cucumbers are yummy, but their also the most natural eye pads you can find for yourself. Cucumber and the skin share the same level of hydrogen, so it becomes easier for cucumber to mask all the problem areas, from under eye circles, to puffiness.
My night routine consists of applying cucumbers over my eyes and applying a face mask by Lush. The masks are made with fresh, natural ingredients. They are personally made and packaged, so you know what your putting on your face has no artificial chemicals. I like to switch between masks on a daily basis. I’ swear by this, the mask does wonders!
Before going to sleep, I love drinking chamomile tea with cinnamon sticks. The combination is a powerful anti-oxidant duo. Cinnamon’s antioxidant levels are comparable with other high-antioxidant foods. With it’s anti-inflammatory and anti-septic properties, chamomile helps in not only skin irritations but allergies too.
Water, water, water. Water is the most hydrating liquid you can depend on. It nourishes skin, weight loss (it’s filling, and no calories at all), and energizes the muscles.
Although the title of this says “Summer”, in order to see the best results, these natural treatments should be used year around. The answer to a looking better and living better is literally found in our backyard.
